Erdemir, Turkey's first and largest flat steel producer, has commissioned its sixth steam boiler, which enables by-product gases such as blast furnace, steel plant and coke gas to be brought into production effectively and contributes to additional steam and electricity production.
The sixth steam boiler of Erdemir, one of the OYAK Mining Metallurgy Companies, that allows the by-product gases to be brought into production more effectively and efficiently, started to operate. With a production capacity of 160 tons per hour, the new steam boiler replaced the first steam boiler that has been in service since the establishment of Erdemir.
The new steam boiler was commissioned on December 8, 2022 with a ceremony attended by Erdemir General Manager Niyazi Aşkın Peker, Erdemir employees and Erdemir Engineering teams carrying out the project.
It will save electricity and natural gas
Coke gas, blast furnace gas and steel plant gas, which are produced as by-products in iron production processes, are burned in Erdemir's steam boilers to produce steam. The resulting steam is used to provide the combustion air needed by blast furnaces and in many production processes in the facilities.
With the increasing steam, a significant part of the electricity production that Erdemir needs is met. The sixth, more modern and high-capacity steam boiler, built in place of the first steam boiler that has been serving Erdemir since its establishment, will enable more efficient use of energy by saving electricity and natural gas with additional steam production.
